Physical Activity Strategy Forum

Let’s Get Dumfries and Galloway Moving

Working together to make being active part of everyday life

The Physical Activity Forum is part of DG Doing More – a shared movement bringing people together to help Dumfries and Galloway feel healthier, more connected and more active.

It connects communities, groups, organisations and services to make it easier for everyone to move more, in ways that work for real lives and real places.

The Forum plays an important role in supporting delivery of the Physical Activity Strategy, by turning shared priorities into practical action on the ground.

It does this by helping people move more in ways that feel realistic, supported and meaningful – not through one‑off projects, but through everyday change.

Who It’s For

The Physical Activity Forum is open to anyone who wants to help people move more.

That includes community groups, volunteers, local leaders, organisations, practitioners and advocates – as well as people with ideas, energy or experience to share.

You don’t need a title or a formal role to take part.

Why This Matters Now

How active we are is shaped by everyday life – our homes and streets, how we travel, where we spend time, and what feels possible or welcoming.

Making a real difference means people pulling in the same direction.

The Physical Activity Forum brings people together to help make being active easier, fairer and a normal part of life for everyone in Dumfries and Galloway.

What We’re Building Together

The Forum is about doing things differently, with a clear focus on impact:

  • Working together – bringing people and groups together around what matters locally
  • Changing everyday surroundings, not just running activities – making streets, places and services support being active
  • Community‑led solutions – growing local ideas and listening to what people know from real life
  • Trying things out and sharing what works – learning from real experience and helping good ideas spread
  • Reducing the activity gap – widening chances to be active for everyone

What Action Looks Like

In practice, the Forum is about simple, practical things done better together:

  • Sharing what’s working (and what isn’t) from real experiences
  • Bringing people and groups together so good ideas spread faster
  • Helping local ideas grow, not adding extra layers or process
  • Making sure everyday decisions—about places, services and communities—support being active
  • Speaking up for changes to policies, funding and local decisions that make it easier for everyone to move more in everyday life

Be Part of the Movement

The Forum brings people together to share experience, build a collective voice and influence decisions that shape everyday movement.
