Strategy in Action

Dumfries Table Tennis Club

Supporting Sport, Recreation and Health

Dumfries Table Tennis Club is an active and inclusive community club and registered charity based in the heart of Dumfries. The club has its own purpose-built facility and provides opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to take part in physical activity, whether socially, recreationally or competitively.

Alongside regular club activities, it offers dedicated sessions for older adults through its weekday over 50’s social sessions, and supports participation for people living with disabilities, Parkinson’s, and a range of health conditions. These opportunities help people stay active, build confidence and maintain social connections within their community in a relaxed and fun environment.

Supporting the Physical Activity Strategy

Dumfries Table Tennis Club is one example of how local organisations are helping deliver the Physical Activity Strategy through practical community action.

The club contributes to the Strategy by:

  • Creating opportunities for people to be active locally
  • Supporting lifelong participation in physical activity
  • Reducing barriers to participation
  • Building partnerships that support health, wellbeing and social connection
  • Providing welcoming spaces where people can connect and belong

Recent partnership work has also explored opportunities to connect people into community-based physical activity through wider health and wellbeing pathways.

Why It Matters

The Physical Activity Strategy recognises that moving more is about more than organised sport.

Dumfries Table Tennis Club demonstrates how local clubs can support physical activity, wellbeing and community connections by providing accessible opportunities that help people stay active throughout life.
